The rental market is now very busy with owners of property turning to Buy to Let for investment reasons or becoming landlords because they are unable to sell.

Tenants rent because they might not want to commit to buying a property beacuse of the relationship they might be in or not being able to arrange finance.

Whatever your reason for letting a property out or renting one you need to make sure you have adequate insurance.

Landlords - If you are letting a flat / apartment and sometimes a property in a gated development, most likely the buildings insurance will be covered under the block management policy (but check to ensure this and remember some freeholders will want a "consent to let"). You will need buildings insurance otherwise and you need to insure the contents in the property you are letting out, even if there are only carpets and curtains and kitchen appliances provided.

Tenants - It will be most unlikely that your landlord's insurance will cover your personal possessions. So you will need Tenants Contents insurance - to cover your clothes, the iPad, mobile phone, TV, computer etc.(10 Good reasons to rent at the moment Here)
